Most bridal salons have a limited storage capacity even though they sell a number of wedding dresses by various designers. This means that the bridal salon only has one or two dress sizes for each wedding dress design. The more exclusive the bridal salon or boutique, the smaller the selection of sample size wedding dresses they carry.
The sample size wedding dresses are usually a size 8 or 10. You figured this would not be a problem since most American women are a size 8 or 10. But the sample size wedding dresses are in European clothing sizing, which tends to be two or three sizes smaller than American clothing sizing! So the size 8 or 10 sample wedding dress is actually a size 5 or 7. Most of us will not be able to fit into a sample size wedding dress.
The sample wedding dresses tend to be made for an hourglass body shape. And if you do not have a hourglass body shape, the bridal salon will use large clips to hold the fabric in the back so that you can see how your new wedding dress would fit after its been tailored. These are the same large clips you use at home to close a bag of chips or cookies. Are you feeling like a princess yet?
To add insult to injury, you need to order your custom wedding dress 5 to 6 months in advance in order to have it made in time for your wedding. During that 5 to 6 months waiting period, you better not gain any more weight because it is easier to tailor a slightly oversized wedding dress to fit a smaller frame then vice versa.
