There’s a number of different sites online that provide wedding websites for couples. Some are paid services, offering more personalized templates and more functional add-on’s while others are 100% free. Regardless of which route you go with your wedding website, the most important thing is that you have one.
A recent survey announced that 64% of registered brides are using websites to share the details of their weddings. The numbers might be staggering, but they should not be surprising.
If you’re reading this article, it’s probably because you too are in search of a great wedding website service but once you’ve made the decision of which service you are going to use, the next step is making sure that your guests know about it.
Promoting websites can be daunting but we’re not looking to build a mega-presence online, we’re just looking for ways to get in front of as many guests as we can possibly get in front of and there’s a few good things to do.
1) E-mail: If you’ve got an extensive contact list (or even if you don’t), contact the guests that you have information for and work on building a list for others that you don’t. Ask your friends for information on other friends and… well, you catch the drift.
2) Invitation: That’s right, it probably sounds unconventional and that’s probably because it is but with the heightened interest in having a website for a wedding comes an increase in brides putting the domain name on the invitation. This can be a great way to request RSVP’s and gather information in the process.
3) Social Media: With the popularity of sites like Facebook and Twitter and that massive inventory of friends that you have to choose from, leveraging these is an absolute must in making sure your friends and family are updated on the inner workings of your wedding. Additionally, if your wedding website has an RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed – most do – you can use a service like TwitterFeed.com and every time you update information on your wedding website, TwitterFeed.com will automatically post the update to your Twitter and Facebook accounts. Pretty simple isn’t it?
In addition to these strategies, website TheKnot.com recently published tips on what to do on your website. Among them were:
1) Don’t forget your audience. Hey, I get it, you’re a spring chicken but you have to remember that some of your website visitors have an empty nest. Remember when writing for your website that your verbage needs to appeal to a broad audience, not just your best friends.
2) Make sure to include your registry info as, out of over 500,000 wedding website in existence, guests received registry info off of those sites over sixty percent of the time. Use your wedding website to tell your party where you’re registered and any additions that you may have made to your registry.
So there you have it, a few great tips on how to promote your wedding website. Remember, if you build it, they won’t come unless you tell them it’s there.
